In late October, TSS CEO Renee Schofield and Operations Manager Ginny Clay attended the National Drug and Alcohol Screening Association Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. Both are founding board members of NDASA and remain heavily involved in the association. Today, Ginny serves as the Alaska State Affiliate, and Renee sits on the Board of Directors.

NDASA Advocacy Day is designed to bring awareness to legislators who impact public safety policy, particularly in the transportation arena. More than 40 NDASA members were on hand for Advocacy Day and participated in 60 meetings on Capitol Hill. That’s quite an accomplishment, considering there is a government shutdown!

With the rumblings of an Executive Order that will reschedule marijuana, it is important for legislators to understand the testing process and potential unintended consequences of that sort of legislation, and how, without a safety carveout, workplace and public safety would be put at risk. NDASA believes employers must have the right to test protected, as they are the ones who bear all the risk associated with on-the-job accidents while under the influence.

The group also discussed the Second Chances Act, which has yet to be voted on, which supports reducing barriers to re-entry to the workforce for those leaving incarceration or substance misuse rehabilitation.

It was a great event and so wonderful to work with industry colleagues for such important causes. At TSS, we are proud NDASA members and would love to see our business partners and clients join the organization. Just call one of us for details!
