With many changes and ups and downs over the last 25 years, who we are as a company has remained the same: We are about people.

TSS has had many employees over the years. I mean, really, who gets a job working in pee and hopes to make that their lifelong ambition? Well, this past week, I had the honor of being with about 600 of those folks at the NDASA Conference! Some are just starting out, excited to take their new role to great heights, and others who are seasoned veterans who know and understand the value of what the industry brings to the table. I am aware that many people do not understand what it is that TSS really does. I am often asked about drug testing and why it matters. I also often hear that it’s a racket and I am just here to make a million dollars.

First – what is this business? TSS is a safety company with multiple facets to support employers in keeping their employees safe, healthy and able to return home each day without injury. Drug screening is a large part of that. In some cases, it is a requirement of the position. Under U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, drug testing came about after a train crash that killed more than 100 people. That regulation, 49 CFR Part 40, is the standard that all federal license holders abide by. TSS works across the nation and is a Third Party Administrator for programs within the United States Coast Guard, Federal Motor Carriers Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration. That means we help employers meet the requirements under the federal rule. For programs that are not governed by the Department of Transportation, we provide the same services, following state and local laws that apply.

Sometimes, the drug test is a deterrent. Sometimes, it is the catalyst that sends a person to treatment. Sometimes, it brings a child back home from foster care or helps someone gain employment. Regardless of the reason, it comes down to helping people. That’s what I do. It’s the reason I keep doing it. Every day, someone needs just a little help to achieve a goal and TSS has the means to bring action to that goal. From onboarding, training, education and simply being a hand up, we take care of people. So it’s not really just pee, it’s about the people and how we can support their dreams. It’s a beautiful thing to be part of.

AND FYI – we are looking for people to share in this work in Ketchikan and Juneau! Let us know if you are ready to be a team player in an industry that save lives. Contact us at info@tss-safety.com for more information.
