Did you know that 48 percent of Americans have some form of heart disease? According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 cause of death in the United States, claiming more than 840,000 lives per year.
So, in recognition that February is American Heart Month and to help raise awareness about the importance of heart health, our team at TSS has decided to devote this month to taking care of our strongest muscle.
Today, February 1, TSS is launching its inaugural Walk Across America challenge. Our team’s mission is to walk the equivalent number of miles that it would take to get from TSS’s home state capital of Juneau to Washington, D.C. In other words: capital to capital; coast to coast. That’s a total of 3,358 miles!
As a company committed to health and safety and knowing that exercise is one of the best ways to a healthy heart, the goal with this challenge was to find a fun way to motivate and inspire our employees to be healthy. Walking is an exercise anyone, no matter their fitness level can participate in. TSS employees will keep track of how much they walk and submit their miles each week. We’ll track the total number of miles on a map of the United States, celebrating everyone’s achievements along the way.
TSS clients and friends are invited to join in on the fun. Walk along with us, and as our team makes progress, we’ll keep you posted in our blog and social media about where we are on the U.S. map. We’ll also share valuable safety information and resources that are pertinent to the region of the country we’ve reached in our walk. So, keep an eye out because we might be walking in your state sometime in the next few weeks!
Note: If we don’t complete our Walk Across America challenge by the end of February, we’ll keep at it until we do!
